World Renowned Bible Scholar & Best-selling Author
Eugene H. Peterson Enters Long-Term Agreement with WaterBrook

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Apr. 11, 2016)—One of the world’s most respected and influential pastors, authors, and biblical scholars, Eugene H. Peterson, has signed a significant multiple-book deal, including world rights, with WaterBrook, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

The first book in the agreement, titled As Kingfishers Catch Fire: A Conversation on the Ways of God Formed by the Words of God, will release May 16, 2017, in print and digital formats. Peterson, known for his best-selling, award-winning and immensely popular paraphrase of the Bible, The Message, writes a comprehensive overview of the breadth and depth of the Christian life for followers of Jesus. As Kingfishers Catch Fire is the culmination of Peterson’s storied teaching and pastoral career.

Peterson has written more than 30 books including best-sellers A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, The Jesus Way, Leap Over a Wall, and his critically acclaimed memoir The Pastor. For many years, he was the James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the founder of Christ Our King Presbyterian Church in Maryland, where he was the pastor for 29 years.

“We are thrilled to work with Dr. Peterson to bring this new work to the world, as well as a number of other significant works in the future,” said Alex Field, vice president and publisher of WaterBrook & Multnomah. “His influence on the Church around the world through his writing and teaching is deep and wide, and continues to impact the lives of Jesus followers everywhere.”

“There was heated competition for Peterson’s works, which include legacy materials from his unpublished archives,” said Peterson’s long-time agent, Rick Christian, founder and president of Colorado Springs-based Alive Literary Agency, who negotiated the deal. “I couldn’t be more pleased that Alex Field and his team recognized the value of this content early on and spent long hours poring through it before closing the deal for books that will be published over the decade ahead.”

John Blase will serve as editor on the multiple projects.
