ECPA's Rush To PressWith More than 6 Million Copies Sold, Revell Announces Ten Year Anniversary Edition of 90 Minutes in Heaven

Ada, Mich., April 10, 2014 – In the ten years since 90 Minutes in Heaven was published, millions of people across the world have read the incredible true story of Don Piper’s experience with death and life—and in reading it found their own lives changed. To celebrate this milestone, Revell is releasing a special 10th anniversary edition of The New York Times bestseller with a personal update from Piper. Available July 1, 2014, the new edition will also include a publisher’s note from Dwight Baker, stories from readers on how Piper’s story affected their lives and an 8-page photo spread showing Piper’s recovery and his journey since 90 Minutes in Heaven originally released.

In 2004, Revell released 90 Minutes in Heaven with a modest first printing of 7,500 copies. At the time, Piper was an unknown pastor with a bold claim. When 90 Minutes in Heaven was published, bookstores had not observed much enthusiasm for heaven stories, but as interest in Piper’s storyslowly grew through word-of-mouth, an entire publishing category was created. “Don Piper created a path for others,” says Dwight Baker, president of Baker Publishing Group. “His rising profile generated a space, not merely for one book and one story, but for other amazing accounts of near-death experiences.”

After a semi-truck collided with Don Piper’s car in 1989, he was pronounced dead at the scene. For the next 90 minutes, he experienced the glories of heaven. Miraculously, Piper came back to life, and the pleasure of heaven was replaced by a long and painful recovery. Fifteen years after his accident, Piper finally shared his remarkable story in 90 Minutes in Heaven.

Twenty-five years after his fatal accident, Piper reflects on the amazing work God has done through his story. “Indeed what an awesome journey is has been since August 2004,” says Piper. “Chills ran down my spine as I pulled my very own book out of its shipping envelope. Since that day, I have traveled just short of two million miles sharing my story, but above all, the real joy for me is the thousands of souls I have seen commit to Christ after reading the book or hearing my testimony. Men, women, boys and girls who email me, call me, share with me at a book signing table or walk forward during an altar call to say ‘I’ve just trusted the Lord as Savior!’ Praise God!”

Since its release, 90 Minutes in Heaven has spent over five years on The New York Times bestseller list, was a USA Today bestseller, has sold over 6 million copies and is available in 46 languages. Piper has shared his story with over 3,000 live audiences that have included over one and a half million people. Having preached in many countries and all 50 states, he has personally signed over a quarter of a million copies of 90 Minutes in Heaven.

“Don’s story connects us to God’s mysterious activity in our own lives,” writes Baker. “It offers a promise of what is to come. As the publisher and a companion of Don Piper, participating in this conversation is our greatest privilege.”
