Case Study – National Day of Prayer Task Force Social Media

The National Day of Prayer Task Force is a privately funded, non profit, organization that exists to help instigate the practice of prayer among Americans, and “encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture” (National Day of Prayer Task Force, 2013). The National Day of Prayer was instituted by Congress and President Truman in 1952, and in 1988, President Reagan amended it to be the first Thursday in May. The Task Force is led by Mrs. Shirley Dobson, and desires to help spread awareness about the day of prayer and help encourage participation in the event.

Facebook Changes Policy – Allows Users to Create Contests Directly

Up until last week, Facebook required pages to run contests through some kind of third party app. This had caused some page owners to shy away from the concept of having to use yet another app to run a contest for their fans or Facebook friends, and Facebook users to have shy away from contests because they would have to allow access to yet another app.

With changes made by Facebook last week, administrators of pages can now use Facebook itself to run a contest without having to utilize a third party app.

Social Media: Is It Relevant To OUR Audience?

We were recently at a business meeting with 35-40 senior business leaders and were asked some questions by a couple of attendees regarding the relevance of social media to their businesses leader and ministry members. “Is social media marketing relevant to our audience? What about our age audience?”

When we do presentations on Social Media around the country, we still find people who don’t understand the business value of social media involvement. As social networks become even more ingrained into the fabric of society and culture, nearly every faith-based business or ministry can find relevancy in maintaining an active social media presence.

Social Media: Where Do I Start?

Social Media continues to be a hot topic with lots of questions from the audience as I teach on marketing at events like the Christian Musician Summit and Christian Leadership Alliance.

I’ve been involved in social media since the very early days in 2007 when I brought one of the first Christian social media sites into our FrontGate Media group. We have served as Social Media agents for the Barnabas Group, Barbour Publishing, GMC, Kenny Luck at Every Man Ministries/Saddleback Church, the Christian Comic Arts Society and others.

I look at Social Media like establishing an embassy in a foreign country. By setting up shop inside one or more of the social media worlds, you are able to reach out to the local inhabitants, start to learn their culture, and establish relationships.

Another Pesky Facebook Annoyance You Probably Want To Fix Immediately

So Facebook is monkeying with the interface again… Have you noticed that you are only seeing updates in your newsfeed from almost always the same people lately? Have you also noticed that when you post things like status messages, photos and links, the same circle of people are commenting and everyone else seems to be ignoring you?

The Facebook Setting You Should Change as Quickly as Possible

I just read an article over at Gawker today that Facebook has finally upgraded their system so that we can protect ourselves from hijackers looking for easy targets for identity theft while we go about our own internet activities in a public place such as a Starbucks or Panera. You would think they would have made this simple but critical update really easy for us all to implement, but of course they buried it deep in the Account Settings area of your Profile.
