Ada, Mich. (September 26, 2016)—Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, is pleased to announce that they have signed a two-book contract with debut novelist Valerie Fraser Luesse.
In Glory, Alabama (Spring 2018), Luesse takes readers back to the 1960s in rural Alabama, where the mysterious disappearance of a black field hand sparks a quest by the wealthy, fatherless white boy he has befriended. Young Pete McLean is relentless in his search for Isaac Reynolds, his lost friend, and he discovers much more than he bargained for—including the love of his life and some hard truths about his community. Before it’s all over, Pete—and the people he loves most—will have to blur the lines of race, class, and religion in a tiny, unassuming Southern town called Glory, Alabama.
“Our team at Revell was immediately drawn in by the beauty and authenticity in Valerie’s writing,” said Kelsey Bowen, Associate Acquisitions Editor for Revell. “In Glory, Alabama, Valerie shows us her storytelling chops—bringing us to a part of the south in the 1960s that we don’t often consider when we look back on the civil rights events of that decade. Readers will fall for the captivating inhabitants of Glory, and will laugh and cry with the characters as they navigate differences in race and class amid difficult life situations. On behalf of our team at Revell, it’s a true privilege to work with Valerie on this beautiful story.”
