Every year, the Michigan Notable Books committee selects twenty books from various genres that reflect the state’s rich cultural, historical, and literary heritage. For the 2020 Michigan Notable Books list, Timothy Gleisner, head of Special Collections at the Library of Michigan, stated, “I was just amazed at how many books actually had the potential to be picked and how much winnowing we had to do before we had the list the whole committee felt comfortable with.”

Michigan Notable Books is a statewide program that originated in 1991 as part of the Michigan Week celebration. Each title selected must have a connection with Michigan, whether it is written about the state or written by a Michigan author.
