Oasis Church Celebrates New Location, Expands Outreach to the LA Community
Los Angeles, CA – For the past 29 years, Oasis Church has been known as a racially diverse non-denominational Christian congregation, focused on positively impacting the LA community. After a decade and a half meeting at the Oasis Theater, the church is honored and thankful to announce their new home at the historic Wilshire Christian Church.
Sunday, September 8, Oasis Church will host an official Grand Opening, with celebration services at 9:30am, 11:30am and 6:00pm. Special guests include Councilman Tom LaBonge, Deputy John Darnell from Councilman Paul Koretz’s office, David Siegel the Consul General to Israel, LAPD’s Captain Davis, Community Relations Officer Bob Rothman, and many Los Angeles leaders, pastors and community partners.
Designed by architect Robert Orr, the building is a Los Angeles historic landmark. Since being erected in 1926, the building has been a treasure of the area’s landscape and served as first Christian church built on Wilshire Boulevard.
Juxtaposed to the building’s traditional exterior, Oasis Church is an energetic, modern congregation. Founded and lead by Lead Pastors Philip and Holly Wagner, Oasis is nationally known for their relevant teaching, as well as their focus on social justice work, creative community outreach and the arts.
The building will not be limited to Sunday gatherings. Continuing their commitment to community outreach, Oasis will be serving the neighborhood with a variety of services.
Each Sunday, programs and activities are available for children at all services, including a special ministry called “Glue” that is designed especially for children with physical and/or mental challenges. Also, a Food Pantry is open after services to anyone in need of groceries.
Wednesday evenings provide a vibrant variety of programs, including creative arts and leadership classes for children and adult programs that topically range from cancer outreach and support, parenting, marriage and finance to more traditional church topics such as prayer, faith and worship.
Thursday nights, Celebrate Recovery is available for anyone seeking help through a 12-step program. Other Thursday programs include outreach to women who work in the sex industry.
Friday night offers student led programs for Junior and Senior High youth, as well as outreach to the Homeless in Hollywood.
Saturday is the official outreach day for the church, where weekly teams work with five partners throughout the community, including the LAPD, Adopt a Block, Longwood Convalescent Home, John Burroughs Middle School, Alexandria House, as well as quarterly volunteering with the Compton Initiative. The church is also open for free tutoring for children in grades 1-12, ESL and adult literacy classes, and bi-monthly free music classes for teens.
Pastor Philip Wagner explains, “We love Los Angeles and are committed to partnering with our local and city leaders to meet the needs of the people in our community.”
Oasis Church is located at the corner of Normandie and Wilshire, at 634 S Normandie Avenue, Los Angeles, CA. Sunday service times are 9:30am 11:30am and 6:00pm.
