The holidays are notoriously busy times; people are in and out of their offices, on vacation, and are often drowning in emails from multiple sources. You may be wondering how to target your audience at such a hectic time. Wondering when to post on your social platform? We’re here to help!
Recently, the AddThis blog did a study to determine the best times to post on social media during particularly hectic times. They found that the following windows are most appropriate and will boost your posts’ visibility.
-Pinterest: Tuesdays 4:00-5:00PM, EST
-Twitter: Tuesdays 11:00-12:00PM, EST
-Facebook: Wednesdays 10:00-11:00PM, EST
The article also found that, “People are sharing to Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn mostly in the mornings, but are generally more likely to click on content within these services in the afternoon beginning at 3PM”, and that these times are not drastically differing from the usage times during off-peak times (i.e. not holidays). A similar study done by SocialTimes also discovered that the worst times to post updates on social media include the weekends for some platforms, when readers are less likely to share information on Facebook and Twitter (retweets, shares).
Remember that the key to any successful posting is targeting and understanding your audience. Entrepreneur did a study in March and found, “A common trend with the optimal times is you want to catch people during their downtime. You might need to get them early in the morning during their commute or “settling in” time at work, during lunch or in the evenings…understand the timing may be different for their specific customer base or industry. If they are trying to reach college students, the normal 9 to 5 workday doesn’t apply. Experimentation is still recommended, and small businesses can use various tools to automate the sending of posts and tweets at various times throughout the day and over the weekend.”
Don’t be afraid to test out a few posts and make appropriate changes, but the guidelines above will help you get off to a great start!
