LittWorld 2015: Reaching Publishers in 50 Nations
(Carol Stream, Illinois, USA) “LittWorld helped me to see myself as a part of the bigger picture of what God is doing globally through His servant writers, editors and publishers,” magazine editor Charles Christian of India said after attending LittWorld 2015 in Singapore. Some 278 publishing staff and writers from 50 nations participated in MAI’s triennial global publishing conference November 1 to 6.
“I see LittWorld as a big family Christmas dinner with family members attending from different places. It was a great experience,” said author Pusonnam Yiri of Nigeria.
Plenary speakers addressed the theme, “Reaching Your Reader,” and included award-winning author and publisher Emily Lim of Singapore, publisher Korel Herjeczki of Hungary, and designer Randy Capp of the Bible Society of Egypt, among others. The more than 40 small-group workshops taught practical skills in specific areas of publishing, writing, editing, marketing and management.
“LittWorld taught me to think big,” said a reinvigorated publisher from Bangladesh.
Eight men and women from Laos came away with a new commitment to serve God through writing. “The written word can go where we cannot go,” one observed.
MAI President John Maust asked, “Please pray that participants quickly implement new skills and ideas, and that they will go forward in creating excellent Christian books and articles for readers in their nations.”
During LittWorld, MAI launched two new titles. Light for the Writer’s Soul: 100 devotions by global Christian writers, co-published with Armour Publishers in Singapore, is by 80 authors from 27 nations. Twelve Strands: Journeys with Asian authors (published by Graceworks), is by a dozen Asian authors who describe the joy and pain of following a calling to write for Christ.
MAI’s “Distinguished Lifetime Trainer” award was presented at the conference to author Babu Verghese of India, for his dedication to encouraging writers over three decades and facilitating more than 125 writer workshops across India.
“God has used MAI in a significant way these past 30 years since our founding in 1985,” said MAI Board Chair Greg Thornton, senior vice president of media at Moody Bible Institute. “And based upon energy shown by those gathered in Singapore, He has big plans ahead!”
