January 29, 2016— InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s search for the new publisher of InterVarsity Press (IVP) has officially begun. In October of last year, current publisher Bob Fryling announced that he would retire in June 2016.
InterVarsity seeks a new publisher who is inspired by IVP’s rich publishing heritage and excited to lead innovation and growth in a rapidly changing publishing environment.
“Bob has built a strongly unified and gifted leadership team that has led InterVarsity Press to flourish,” says Jim Lundgren, interim president of InterVarsity. “IVP continues to be recognized as a leading publisher of thoughtful Christian books. From rigorous academic texts to practical small group discussion guides, and from incisive cultural analyses to invitations to spiritual formation, IVP titles serve the campus, the church and the world.”
InterVarsity Press is an extension of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, a ministry that has been active on US college and university campuses for seventy-five years. Located in Westmont, Illinois, IVP has been publishing thoughtful Christian books since its inception in 1947.
Over the last seventy years, IVP has been a key part of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s ministry, annually publishing a wide range of titles designed to equip and encourage people to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of life. Praising IVP’s publishing program, J. I. Packer says, “Some publishers tell you what to believe. Other publishers tell you what you already believe. But InterVarsity Press helps you to believe.”
Despite recent years being some of the most challenging in the history of publishing, IVP has remained financially healthy and has been certified as a “Best Christian Workplace” for six consecutive years. IVP titles are consistently found on lists of the best books of the year compiled by Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, Outreach, ForeWord and other media.
“The tremendous breadth and depth of what IVP publishes is a tangible expression of the body of Christ serving her Lord in all of life,” Fryling says on the future of IVP. “Because IVP is rooted in both the university world and in a missional movement, it will always seek truth while demonstrating grace in being a winsome witness in the world. I trust that the future of IVP will always be inextricably linked with pursuing God’s kingdom here on earth.”
