(Nashville, TN) June 8, 2016—Thomas Nelson publishers congratulates fiction author Corban Addison, recipient of the inaugural Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize. A panel of judges chose his novel The Tears of Dark Water (Thomas Nelson) for the £10,000 prize, sponsored by the Wilbur and Niso Smith foundation.
Founder Niso Smith says, “The Wilbur and Niso Smith Foundation was created to allow us to share our love of adventure writing with the world. The first stage of our mission will be to award an annual prize for adventure writing – the Wilbur Smith Adventure Award.
The next stage will be to reach out to writers and readers across the world, bringing the spirit of adventure into their lives and inspiring them to undertake their own journeys of discovery. More than anything we want the Wilbur and Niso Smith Foundation to be an organization that uplifts, inspires and educates.”
“We are honored to be a part of Corban’s publishing life,” says Daisy Hutton, Vice President and Publisher, Fiction. “Corban is an immensely talented writer who successfully uses his craft to raise awareness around global social justice issues. His commitment to meticulous research has taken him to some of the most remote and dangerous parts of the world, and his storytelling gifts allow readers to travel to those places with him. It is wonderful to see him honored by an award that recognizes and supports the spirit of adventure.”
The Tears of Dark Water spans continent and cultures as the paths of three families converge in a single, explosive moment. It is a moment that will test them, and break them, but that will leave behind a glimmer of hope—that out of the ashes of tragedy the seeds of justice and reconciliation can grow.
Addison’s next novel, Harvest of Thorns, will be on-sale in January 2017, and explores the human stories behind global labor sourcing in the international fashion industry.
