CAUTION: Scam Uncovered by CBA for Attendees of the International Christian Retail Show

If you are planning on attending the International Christian Retail Show this year, please beware of recent news from the Christian Booksellers Association about a scam that is targeting vendors and attendees.

Attendees should watch their emails for unsolicited emails from any organization called: Global Housing Corp, Global Housing Services, or Global Housing Services, Corp. They may also be utilizing phone calls  as well, and claim to offer discounts on lodging for the event.

They are not affiliated with CBA, and are not authorized to make these reservations. The CBA is currently investigating this situation, and will be sending authentic reservation information to attendees. They advise attendees to wait for those emails.

CBA President Curtis Riskey – Court Ruling May Affect Your Business

What if our government could control religious conversation to the point that if you owned a for-profit business, any reference to Jesus Christ or God could be banned? Or worse, our government required you to violate your Christian principles because of laws that political leaders might pass?

That is what is at stake in a U.S. Supreme Court case that will be heard on March 25. These examples have already occurred. You may not favor Hobby Lobby or its subsidiary Mardel Christian stores, but a ruling against this privately held company could set a precedent for how you do business as a Christian-product provider.

I believe CBA exists for such a time as this…

CBA is standing up for religious liberty so your for-profit business may continue to enjoy First Amendment rights now guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. CBA is the lead petitioner on a “friend of the court” brief that was submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court last week in support of the case against Hobby Lobby and Mardel. The Court also will hear simultaneously a case filed by Conestoga Wood Specialties, owned by a Mennonite family. The cases focus on the company owners’ pro-life stand against having to pay for “morning after” and “week after” birth-control drugs as required in the Affordable Care Act. These cases are about much more than birth control or pro-life values. If these companies lose, your freedom to operate your business under First Amendment protections could disappear.

CBA has joined with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and Michael McConnell of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, one of the nation’s top constitutional lawyers, to help inform the Supreme Court’s judges about the threat this case has to religious liberty. The brief argues that businesses have long been protected since before the founding of the nation, and forcing a company to violate religious principles would destroy constitutionally guaranteed protections.

Cincinnati, Ohio. (February 5, 2014) – While celebrating the organization’s 30th anniversary, pureHOPE  is honored to announce that new President Noel Bouché has assumed executive leadership of the ministry, succeeding Rick Schatz.  The handoff is the culmination of a planned three-year leadership transition strategy that has been lauded by outside observers.

Bouché joined pureHOPE in 2008, leaving a corporate law practice to help advance the ministry’s mission of providing Christian solutions in a sexualized culture. He spearheaded the organization’s rebranding, and led the development of unique programs and resources, like the pureJUSTICE college internship and Bible study resources that address the injustices of sex trafficking, pornography, and sexualized culture.

“Noel is an extremely qualified next-generation, visionary leader who is well-positioned to lead the ministry in the 21st century. I have the utmost confidence in Noel and his team to increase pureHOPE’s impact in the coming years”, said Schatz.

“It is a tremendous privilege to be invited to serve pureHOPE as President,” Bouché said. “This is an amazing organization with a rich history and a talented and passionate team.  God has given us a vision and mission that inspires and equips individuals, families, and churches in a relevant way for such a time as this.”

Bouché is based in pureHOPE’s Dallas office in the Hope Center, a first-of-its-kind, nine-acre campus that houses over forty Christian ministries.

Schatz will continue to work part-time out of pureHOPE’s Cincinnati office as Ministry Advancement Specialist, developing strategic partnerships, advising, teaching and equipping.  “Rick has provided outstanding leadership to pureHOPE over the past thirteen years, and we are extremely blessed that he will continue to contribute his wisdom and insight to our mission,” said Bouché.

The ministry of pureHOPE (founded in 1983 as the National Coalition Against Pornography) has never been more vital, given the sexualized culture in which we all live that attacks the wholeness of individuals, families, and communities.  Sadly, the church is not immune.  It is estimated that 50% of Christian men and over 20% of Christian women struggle with pornography and the majority of pastors say it is the most damaging issue in their church.  Moreover, 70% of mainline Protestant churches never or seldom discuss issues of sexual ethics and The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that less than 15% of parents discuss human sexuality with their children.

 As part of Bridgeway Academy’s international student body, Korean Students Receive Solid, Accredited Homeschool Education.

Catasauqua, PA (February 5, 2014) – Bridgeway Academy’s commitment to provide excellence in education has never stopped at the United States borders.  While Bridgeway has graduated many American students living abroad, on February 22, 2014 the homeschool academy is proud to congratulate their first classroom based group of international South Korean graduates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ability to calculate figures for ad impressions and related dollars, and amounts such as discounts, proportions, or percentages.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information or instructions and deal with both abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear. Organization Commits to a Three Phase Project that Brings Clean Water, Builds Schools, Creates Businesses and Trains Pastors.

Vancouver, B.C. (December 20, 2013)– As the new year approaches, Impact Nations is gearing up to fulfill their commitment to help improve the extreme needs faced in the community of Kalonga, Uganda. Similar to the model that Impact Nations has used in other areas around the globe, the organization will implement a community transformation strategy that can bring lasting help to this region that currently is facing desperate need.

Located 96 miles Northeast of Gulu, Kalgona is a rural village made up of 3,000 families. The residents are farmers who earn less than $1.50 per day, which has created a cycle of poverty and corruption.  Their children have no opportunity for an education.  There is no clean water-source, creating rampant water-borne diseases.  The one clinic is over-run by the suffering, and too often, workers sell government provided medications to private pharmacies to better their own lives.  This forces needy parents to purchase medicines at incredibly inflated costs that should be free. Without the financial means to pay for medicines, parents are required to leverage their future crops, which leaves them without enough food to feed their children.  This cycle becomes their reality – parents have to decide whether to provide food or medicine for their children.

Built in three phases designed to completely transform the community, Impact Nations has already raised over half of the funds needed for phase one.  To date, 25% of the needed water filters and three rainwater tanks have been installed, a solar power system has been installed at the Hope and Care School and a 15-acre farm has been secured.  Additional phase one projects will include providing more water filters and tanks and purchasing farmland and livestock that will provide an income for single mothers, widows and help fund partner schools.

Phase two builds classrooms and trains teachers at the Hope and Care School, trains citizens in farming and gardening, provides vocational training for widows and single mothers and trains community health leaders.  The third and final phase establishes a community medical clinic, builds homes for orphans and establishes micro-credit and entrepreneurial programs for businesses.

Impact Nations is committed to not just meet the immediate needs of the community, but by assisting in the creation of sustainable businesses, as well as schools, clinics and churches, the region can end the cycle of poverty from within.  This internal change causes a ripple effect that discourages corruption, decreases the opportunity for trafficking and allows for sense of peace, personal pride and security.

One of the unique elements that separates Impact Nations from other relief organizations is the ability for anyone to travel to their work-sites, get their hands dirty and help transform a community.  From March 16-28, Impact Nations will be hosting a Journey of Compassion where volunteers can help in three regions throughout the country.  This firsthand experience includes conducting medical clinics, distributing water filters, training people about sanitation and health practices, serving orphans and sharing the gospel.  Early registration closes January 15.

Over the past seven years, Impact Nations has been honored to work alongside local citizens to bring clean water to over 150,000 people in countries such as Nicaragua, Haiti, Uganda, Kenya and the Philippines.  Once again in Kalgona, Impact Nations will utilize Sawyer Point One technology, which provides up to 500 US gallons of clean water each day.

Orange County, CA (December 19, 2013) – FrontGate Media is proud to announce an agreement with the JUSTICE FILM FESTIVAL, making it the newest addition to the FrontGate family, the largest event and web network in the faith-based market.  The second annual one-day film festival will be held February 23, 2014, closing out The Justice Conference.  Held at the Downtown Independent in Los Angeles, the Justice Film Festival seeks to promote compelling storytelling, celebrate and showcase high quality films and create a platform for conversation and action among justice-minded individuals and organizations.

In partnership with The Justice Conference, the film festival is produced by Nashville-based independent film marketing agency Propeller, under the direction of Andy Peterson. The selected collection of films will present new perspectives on well-known topics while revealing untold stories of unexpected courage and redemption through the medium of documentaries, feature films, and shorts. The Justice Film Festival team will handpick the 2014 selection of films, providing content that is diverse in both subject and geography featuring issues such as human trafficking, slavery, poverty, HIV/AIDS, and human rights. Awards will be given to outstanding films that exhibit excellence in the following categories:  Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary Film and Best Justice Film.

First round official announcements in the Full Length Category include:

Rising From Ashes:  Directed by T.C. Johnstone, Rising from Ashes is a feature length documentary chronicling the first Rwandan national cycling team to represent their country at the 2012 Olympics.  Competing is a sport traditionally ruled by affluent whites, this rag tag group of cyclists, coached by the first American to ride in the Tour de France, is transformed into a powerful symbol of hope for a country recovering from one of the world’s most devastating genocides.  Rising From Ashes is the 2013 Winner of the Boulder International Film Festival, the winner of the 2013 Mountain Film Festival in Telluride, CO, and was named an official selection in both the 2013 Dallas International Film Festival as well as the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Blood Brother:  Directed by first time filmmaker Steve Hoover, Blood Brother tells the story of Rocky Bratt, a young man from a fractured family and troubled path who traveled through India without a plan.  His encounter with a group of HIV positive children living in an orphanage changes everything.  Blood Brother has received high accolades, including achieving the Sundance 2013 Grand Jury Prize, Winning the Milano Film Festival Awards Best Documentary, and Winning the Big Sky Documentary Festival Best Feature.

A Place at the Table:  Directed by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, A Place at the Table documents incidents of hunger experienced by millions of Americans, and proposes solutions that would vastly improve the quality of life for so many.  Nominated for a Producer’s Guild Award, the film stars Jeff Bridges and David Beckham and features the music of The Civil Wars.  A Place at the Table was an Official Selection at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

The Justice Conference is a movement of people from all walks of life who have discovered the paradox that true happiness is found when we give our lives away on behalf of others. The conference, along with a network of partner sites, features internationally acclaimed speakers, humanitarian organizations, and pre-conference workshops. The event serves to educate, inspire and connect a generation of men and women around a shared concern for biblical and social justice on behalf of the vulnerable and oppressed.
