BISG Webinar: Guide to Fixed Layout for E-Books
BISG is pleased to offer a two-part Webinar series on the use of fixed layout for e-books to help address the myriad issues around fixed layout, including the different considerations for current e-readers and platforms, when and why to adopt it, and practical guidance for its use.
Each Webinar in this Professional Development series is free to BISG members and is $49 for non-members. Members can email info@bisg.org for the discount code.
The first of the two Webinars is intended for managers needing a solid undertanding of fixed layout issues for better planning while the second addresses the practical needs of those creating e-books.
The first Webinar, “When to Fit the Mold and When to Break It: The Possibilities and Limitations of Fixed Layout for E-Books” is intended for managers, publishers, and industry professionals needing an overview of Fixed Layout considerations. It will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Liisa McCloy-Kelley, Director, Content Management at Penguin Random House, will present the pros and cons of using Fixed Layout, addressing its overall benefits and limitations, and the kinds of e-books best suited to its use. The second Webinar, “How to think Inside the Box: Programming Fixed Layout for E-Books” should be helpful to e-book production professionals, including self-publishing and independent authors. It is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Dave Cramer, BISG’s Fixed Layout Working Group Chair and Content Workflow Specialist at Hachette Book Group, will present practical guidance for making fixed layout e-books and offer concrete suggestions for avoiding the most common pitfalls in their production.
