PASSION & PURPOSE: Believing the Church Can Still Change the World
by Jimmy Seibert chronicles story of Antioch International Movement of Churches
(Waco, Texas) Officials at Antioch Community Church and its associated missions organization Antioch Ministries International are honored to announce their selection to Ministry Today magazine’s “Ministry Today 21” — 21 ministries and churches that are most influencing the 21st-century church. The magazine lauded Antioch for its expression of the Good News of Jesus in word and deed through missions: locally, nationally, and worldwide.
This special issue features unique ministries that can inspire and encourage. Ministry Today hopes ministry leaders and pastors will use this list to glean ideas that could enhance their own kingdom efforts.
Managing Editor Shawn Akers states, “It is my wish that this special issue of Ministry Today will not only bless all ministerial leaders, but will also be a blessing to the communities and the world in which they serve. I am proud to partner with ministries and churches like Antioch Community Church in reaching the world for Jesus, and I look forward to highlighting other worthy ministries in future issues. Our core values are not simply to play up the biggest and the best. However, we believe ministries and churches should be recognized for being godly examples and models for others.”
“When we decided to focus on the unreached of the world, it caused us to do church differently,” states Jimmy Seibert, lead pastor of Antioch Community Church and founder of Antioch Ministries International. “We weren’t just trying to be a great American church. We were trying to train and disciple our people in such a way that they could reproduce the Kingdom of God anywhere in the world. We are honored to be a part of the Ministry Today 21 issue, and hope that others are inspired to say “yes” to what God is doing, step out in faith, and live with radical intentionality.”
Seibert recently chronicled the firsthand account of Antioch in the new book PASSION & PURPOSE: Believing the Church Can Still Change the World (Clear Day Publishing).
Max Lucado, who wrote the Foreword to the book, states, “To visit Antioch Community Church is to visit the book Acts. To hear their passion is to hear the heart of God. To listen to the stories of their global impact is to realize … it can happen today!” With an intentional focus on intimacy with Jesus, discipleship, church planting, and evangelism, Antioch Ministries International has become one of the fastest growing evangelical movements in the country as well as a common case study among students of church planting and mission work.
Founded in 1999 by Seibert, his wife Laura and a group of friends, Antioch Community Church has grown from one small service in an underserved neighborhood in Waco to more than 3,000 members. This core group has also planted 78 churches in 24 nations, many in regions of the world where the Christian church faces persecution.
