ANGEL SMYTHE TO JUDGE SPIRIT WEST COAST’S “PARTNER AND PLAY” STAGE
Emerging Independent Artist Also Receives Rare Opportunity to Perform Songs from Her Album A STRONGER ME on the Festival Main Stage, Friday May 25
Los Angeles, CA – Acclaimed L.A. Music Award winning artist Angel Smythe has been given a rare honor as an independent artist. Spirit West Coast has asked Angel and her band to not only perform on the festival mainstage alongside some of the most successful artists in Christian music, she has been asked to stay and judge the beloved “Partner and Play” stage as well.
“Partner & Play” is a program that provides opportunities for independent artists and bands to perform at the festival. Covering the genres of solo/duo performance, worship band or rock/urban band, this program is truly unique in that participating artists have the chance to not only win a cash prize and recording session, they receive a critique by professional music industry judges in an “American Idol” showcase format.
“I’ve had the opportunity to perform at both the Del Mar and Monterey festivals on worship stages, but I’m thrilled as an independent artist to not only be able to perform with my band on the Main Stage, but to help inspire new artists at ‘Partner & Play’,” explains Angel. “It is truly an honor. Jon Robberson has been so gracious to me, and I am so excited to help with his vision to bring the message of Jesus Christ through music to many people over this holiday weekend.”
Friday, May 25, Angel and her band will also be sharing music from her latest album A STRONGER ME on the mainstage, helping kick off the festival. Also appearing that evening will be some of the biggest names in Christian music including TobyMac, The Afters and Britt Nicole. Angel will also be performing that evening at Britt Nicole’s evening event for teen girls.
“This opportunity also means so much to me,” continues Angel. “I went to the SWC Del Mar festival several years ago and during that weekend discovered that my first recording had been in vain due to a producer being corrupt. Now, God has brought me back to this festival and given me more than I could have ever imagined. God is truly faithful, and I cannot wait to share the hope He has given me and the strength I now have after going through such trials with the participants at ‘Partner & Play.'”
Angel has been launched into the eyes of the L.A. music scene since the 2011 Los Angeles Music Awards, where she was awarded the coveted Female Singer Songwriter of the Year and Record of the Year Awards, along with the Producer’s Choice Award for Contemporary Christian Album of the Year. This was not only a great honor to Angel, but to the genre, as A STRONGER ME is the first Christian album ever to be nominated for Record of the Year.
Angel began her music ministry in her teens, performing with the group Hi-Tops and then as a regular vocalist on numerous albums for Maranatha! Music and has spent her life leading worship and performing her own music throughout the country. Now with her 2011 album A STRONGER ME, Angel has recruited some of the best talent in Los Angeles and Nashville to help her vision come to life.
A unique combination of natural talent with faith and conviction, Angel has graced the stages of some of the largest churches in America, as well as reaching out to the disadvantaged and hurting in some of the smallest locations, including prisons, orphanages and hospitals. Angel has found that her passion is to help people move from brokenness to breakthrough, from strongholds to strength, from hurting to healing, from fear to faith.
Spirit West Coast is the only multiple-day Christian Music Festival in the southwestern United States. Held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego County, many churches in the region now consider Spirit West Coast a time honored Memorial Day tradition.
