Los Angeles, CA – Last night at the 21st Annual LA Music Awards, Angel Smythe and her album A STRONGER ME received impressive accolades. Not only did the accomplished artist receive the Producer’s Choice Award for Contemporary Christian Album of the Year, she received two of the evening’s top honors – Female Singer Songwriter of the Year and Record of the Year.

 

This is not only a great honor to Angel, but to the genre, as A STRONGER ME is the first Christian album ever to be nominated for an award.

 

“With 350,000 music artists in Southern California, Angel Smythe stands out as one of the best,” states Al Bowman, founder and Executive Producer of the LA Music Awards. “Her performances as part of the 21st Annual Los Angeles Music Awards Showcase Series and main event were truly memorable. Held at the historic Avalon Theater in Hollywood, Angel and her band wowed the audience with a medley of three of her songs, including the title song “A Stronger Me” and her upcoming single “Breakthrough.”

 

Just before the awards, Angel was invited to walk the red carpet with other celebrities before the show began. The LA Music Awards are presented in tandem with the L.A. F.A.M.E. Awards that presented honors such as Lifetime Achievement Award to music producer Keith Olsen, a Lifetime Achievement Award to composer Carol Connors, and Legacy Awards given to the children of Michael Jackson and James Brown.

 

After receiving her nominations, Angel performed at the historic Whisky A Go-Go on September 22, and played for a packed house including judges, dignitaries and music fans who voted for the awards. All of the voting and preparation cumulated into last night’s event, hosted by TV Personality and Producer Tamara Henry and the “Official People’s Mayor of Hollywood” Tony Boldi.

Her spiritual approach to handling her live shows makes her a gem to showcase. She is probably the best recipient we have ever had as a part of our multiple awards programs.”

Angel began her music ministry in her teens, performing with the group Hi-Tops and then as a regular vocalist on numerous albums for Maranatha! Music as well has her own recordings. She has spent her life leading worship and performing her own music throughout the country. Now with her 2011 album A STRONGER ME, Angel has recruited some of the best talent in Los Angeles and Nashville to help her vision come to life. All of the songs on this project offer stories of triumph and victory.(

 

“These awards have been a great encouragement as I have started to re-focus my music and my ministry,” explains Angel. “Much of my life has been paralyzed by fear due to life’s circumstances, but God has been slowly healing my spirit and building in me a ‘stronger’ spirit of confidence and boldness. My excitement for the doors that God is opening to me is hard to contain!”

 

Throughout the years, Angel has been honored to work with some of the biggest names in music, including Michael W. Smith, Natalie Grant, Jaci Velasquez, Tim Davis (Glee), Darlene Zschech, Tommy Walker, Lou Rawls, Sandi Patty and Crystal Lewis, among others.

 

A unique combination of natural talent with faith and conviction, Angel has graced the stages of some of the largest churches in America, as well as reaching out to the disadvantaged and hurting in some of the smallest locations, including prisons, orphanages and hospitals. Angel has found that her passion is to help people move from brokenness to breakthrough, from strongholds to strength, from hurting to healing, from fear to faith.

 

Her song, “Entertaining Angels” (renamed “Angel in Disguise”) that was co-written with Tony Guerrero, has been chosen as part of an initiative to help end homelessness through music. Through Musicians with a Cause, this initiative hopes to not only build awareness, but helps raise funds and unite the voices of community organizations on the frontlines fighting homelessness.

 

“My mission is simple. I want the Holy Spirit to melt me and mold me into a vessel that heals the brokenhearted and changes lives,” she explains. “I pray the voters and judges in the LA Music Awards found hope and encouragement in the songs from A STRONGER ME.”
