COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.Home Run, an original movie with director David Boyd (Walking Dead, Friday Night Lights) is set to release nation-wide on over 800 screens late-September, joined by Home Run the novel, releasing Sept. 1, 2012, with David C Cook publishers. Travis Thrasher, celebrated novelist, has been enlisted to adapt the screenplay into a deeply moving story for fiction readers.

“The inspiring and authentic message of Home Run is that freedom is possible,” says Don Pape, Publisher at David C Cook. “What Courageous was for fatherhood, and Fireproof for marriages, Home Run is for battling addictions, bad habits, and hang-ups. This story says that no hurt is beyond healing, no habit is beyond help, and no hang-up is beyond hope.”

Home Run is the fictional story of professional baseball player Cory Brand (Scott Elrod) who has a substance abuse problem and is forced into rehab in his hometown in order to get back to his team. His agent, Helene Landy (Vivica A. Fox), finds a 12-step program called Celebrate Recovery® for her star player. While home, he discovers new hope when he faces his checkered past, and takes on coaching duties for a misfit Little League team.

Carol Mathews, executive producer of Home Run explains, “I felt led to make a movie where people could see they no longer had to live with the prison of addiction and the baggage of their bad choices.”

Novelist Travis Thrasher is best known for writing suspenseful stories filled with twists, turns, honesty, and surprising spiritual depth. His novels include, Ghostwriter, Isolation, and the four acclaimed books of The Solitary Tales series: Solitary, Gravestone, Temptation, and Hurt.

“I was thrilled that David C Cook asked me to write this novel and excited to hear the producers were already fans of mine,” Thrasher said. “I love this inspiring story about a broken man finding hope. Cory Brand is like my long-lost brother who I’m grateful to have finally met. I cannot wait to see this movie in the theater.”

According to www.celebraterecovery.com, the Celebrate Recovery® program highlighted in Home Run is a forward-looking program. Celebrate Recovery® was founded in 1991 by Pastor John Baker of Saddleback Church with the goal of overcoming life’s issues with a twelve-step program based on Christian principles. This recovery program addresses all types of habits, hurts and hang-ups. Over 700,000 people have gone through the program in partnerships with 18,000 thousand churches around the world.

In an open letter on the Celebrate Recovery® website, Saddleback Church senior pastor Rick Warren had this to say about the program, “This program focuses on the future rather than wallowing in the past, or dredging up and rehearsing painful memories over and over….

Regardless of what has already happened, the solution is to start making wise choices now and depend on Christ’s power to help me make those changes. Celebrate Recovery is built on the New Testament principle that we don’t get well by ourselves. We need each other. This recovery program emphasizes personal responsibility. Instead of playing the ‘accuse and excuse’ game of victimization, this program helps people face up to their own poor choices and deal with what they can do something about. We cannot control all that happens to us. But we can control how we respond to everything.”

Home Run reminds us of the power of forgiveness, the richness of redemption, and the wisdom of trusting God to revive us,” said Max Lucado, New York Times best-selling author and pastor.
