The Associação de Editores Cristãos (ASEC), the Christian publishers association in Brazil, is hosting its first international Christian book fair, or FLIC (Feira Internacional do Livro Cristão), this May 2-6, 2012. The event includes activities for industry professionals and for the general public. Five thousand people are expected to attend each day the fair is open to the public. ChristianTrade is pleased to work with ASEC to offer Marketsquare Brazil, a two-day translation rights show, May 2-3, as part of the professional activities at the fair.

“I am excited about this year’s Marketsquare Brazil,” says Kim Pettit, ChristianTrade executive director, “and pleased that we are able to work with ASEC to connect publishers. If you want your books to reach the Brazilian Christian market, make plans now to join us.”

“Christian books are the fastest growing segment in the country’s publishing industry,” adds Pettit. “Just last month, ASEC reported that the Christian book market is projected to grow from approximately US$280 million in 2011, to US$320 million in 2012—a substantial increase in just one year.”

“This is the perfect moment to hold this event,” says Sinval Filho, ASEC’s executive director. “We want FLIC to show the high value of Christian book. The number of evangelicals in Brazil continues to grow, and there is great interest in spiritual matters. Readers are thirsty for Christian books.”

Marketsquare Brazil 2012 is the third annual rights and licensing show organized by ASEC, in partnership with ChristianTrade Association International. It is taking place just before Expolit, the Spanish-language Christian book fair in Miami.”

FLIC will also feature the second annual set of meetings between Christian publishers and booksellers, organized by ASEC in partnership with ChristianTrade member nation ANLE (Associação Nacional de Livreiros Evangélicos, the national association of Christian booksellers).

“I am so pleased we are working together: ANLE, ASEC, and ChristianTrade,” adds Pettit. “We want to grow the Christian trade in Brazil.”
