December 15, 2011—Phoenix, Arizona— The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) announce the three winning book covers for the 2011 ECPA | dp Book Cover Award. These annual awards, co-sponsored by Dickinson Press, recognize the industry’s most effective book designs of the year; those whose design elements most accurately reflect the title’s targeted consumer group.
Winners in three categories were announced at a live webinar on December 14 by judging director Rick Hamm (Marshall Marketing) who explained the award process, and provided analysis of the finalist and winning covers based on criteria set by RISC consumer research* relating consumer profiles and buying behavior to book design. Each book cover (front and back) was scored on its title/subtitle, theme, imagery, font style/treatment, color, along with the overall design and its pertinence to the book’s intended consumer profile.
ECPA CONGRATULATES THE WINNERS OF THE 2011 ECPA|DP BOOK COVER AWARD:
Hamm observed that two of the main disconnects he sees in book design is a mismatch between title and content; and to not graphically appeal to a particular consumer “personality.” This year’s finalists and winners did an excellent job matching title to content, and directly appealing to a consumer profile in all design areas. Hamm further noted that the scoring this year was extremely close between finalists and winners.
ECPA President/CEO Mark Kuyper adds, “The success of this program, reinforced by ongoing consumer research and annual webinar training, is evidenced in the improved quality, more focused, beautiful and creative cover designs we continue to receive in this program each year. ECPA congratulates this year’s winners for being the best examples of effective cover designs.”
