Grand Rapids, Mich., May 11, 2011Former Naval officer and author, Don Brown, has signed 200 copies of his Navy thriller Malacca Conspiracy to present to the sailors of USS Reuben James, a guided missile frigate home ported at Pearl Harbor, which was featured at the beginning of Malacca Conspiracy

“It’s an honor and a privilege for Zondervan to have the sailors of the USS Reuben James be presented with copies of Malacca Conspiracy,” says Don Gates, vice president of marketing.

This July, Brown will release the first novel in his new Pacific Rim series, Thunder in the Morning Calm. Lieutenant Commander “Gunner” McCormick is assigned as intelligence officer to Carrier Strike Force 10. Being deployed to the Yellow Sea at the invitation of South Korea for joint exercises with the US Navy, Gunner discovers a top-secret memo: the North Koreans may still be holding a small group of American POWs from the Korean War. Gunner is a dedicated Navy intelligence officer sworn to secrecy, but he can’t stop thinking about the grandfather he never met. Could he still be alive in North Korea? And what about the others who may be there?

Don Brown served five years in the U.S. Navy as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps, which gave him an exceptional vantage point into both the Navy and the inner workings of “inside-the-beltway” as an action officer assigned to the pentagon. He left active duty in 1992 to pursue private practice, but remained on inactive status through 1999, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He is the author of Malacca Conspiracy, The Navy Justice series and Black Sea Affair, a submarine thriller that predicted the 2008 shooting war between Russia and Georgia. Brown and his family live in North Carolina, where he pursues his passion for penning novels about the Navy.
