LAKE MARY, FLCharisma Media is pleased to announce that Oral Roberts University (ORU) has added Tessie Güell DeVore to its Board of Trustees.

A publishing industry veteran with more than 20 years’ experience in Christian book publishing, Tessie Güell DeVore has served as the executive vice president of Charisma House, the book group of Charisma Media, since 2006.

“Charisma Media has enjoyed a long, supportive relationship with ORU that dates back to my friendship with its founder, Oral Roberts,” says Steve Strang, founder of Charisma Media, publisher of Charisma and Ministry Today magazines. “We’re proud to see Tessie further our relationship with this board appointment.”

While others normally specialize in only one area of publishing, DeVore is uniquely qualified and respected for her expertise in many publishing fronts. A Cuban-Puerto Rican, she started working at Charisma Media in 1993, where she established Vida Cristiana, a Spanish magazine that is about to be relaunched as the official publication of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.

An award-winning writer—both in English and Spanish— DeVore earned her B.A. in Journalism and Public Relations with minors in Speech Communications and Psychology from Auburn University. She is the co-author of Happy Birthday to Me, a children’s book about a boy growing up in a multicultural home.

“It is an honor to be part of the Board of Trustees at ORU. It is an incredible group of high caliber men and women,” says DeVore. “The leadership of Mart Green and Mark Rutland is admirable—and what they have accomplished in these past few years is remarkable. ORU’s potential is tremendous. I’m excited to be a part of the university’s future and the opportunity to impact generations to come.”

In 1997 DeVore launched Casa Creación, Charisma House’s Spanish book imprint, considered by trade experts as one of the leading Spanish Christian publishers in the world. In 2005, Charisma magazine recognized her as one of “30 Emerging Voices Who Will Lead the Church in the Next Decade.” DeVore was the first female president of the Spanish Evangelical Publishers Association (SEPA) and was also the first person to serve two consecutive terms.

Charisma Media has established relationships with many higher education institutions. Steve Strang has served as a founding trustee of Kings University since 1998. And Charisma magazine has published cover stories on Lee University and Southeastern University, as well as articles by leaders of other institutions. The magazine focuses at least once a year on higher education.
