Grand Rapids, Mich., March 1, 2013Wounded Warrior, Wounded Home: Hope and Healing for Families Living with PTSD and TBI by Marshele Carter Waddell and Dr. Kelly Orr was recently added to the First Lady of the Marine Corps Recommend Reading List (FLOMCRRL). The list was established in October 2012 and features books written for military families. Each title is selected by Bonnie Amos, spouse of the Commandant of Marine Corps, Gen. James Amos. Wounded Warrior, Wounded Home will be featured in a special FLOMCRRL section in Marine Corps Exchange main stores and will be available in all Marine Corps base libraries and the Marine Corps Association. Waddell will participate in a book signing with other authors on the FLOMCRRL on April 20, 2013 at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C.

Waddell, the wife of a career US Navy SEAL, and Orr, a clinical psychologist and Vietnam veteran, speak from their own experiences of living with PTSD and TBI. They also share insights from dozens of families and careful research, offering readers a hope-filled way forward.

More than 1.5 million troops have fulfilled 3 million deployment billets to Iraq & Afghanistan with most service members serving at least two and some as many as nine combat tour of duty. Between 30-40 percent of these returning veterans today show symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or report conditions of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Waddell served with her husband, CDR (ret) Mark Waddell, a career Navy SEAL, for 25 years around the world. Together with their three children, the Waddells have endured many lengthy separations and frequent deployments for combat duty, special operations training and real world conflicts. Today, her husband is a disabled combat veteran with PTSD and multiple TBIs (traumatic brain injury). Her son is currently serving in Afghanistan. Waddell is the founder of Hope for the Home Front and a frequent media guest on military issues.

Orr is a clinical psychologist and Vietnam veteran, and began seeing Waddell as her therapist when she and her husband moved to Colorado Spring, Colo. Orr has his Ph.D. from Biola University and completed a fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology in 1993.
