Contact: Deonne Beron Grand Rapids, Mi., October 24, 2012. Baker Books, a division of Baker Publishing Group, has signed Bob Fu, former dissident and pastor of an illegal Chinese underground church to a one-book deal that will tell the remarkable story of his imprisonment, his escape and his tireless fight for religious freedom and human rights in China. Fu’s book, God’s Double Agent: The True Story of a Chinese Christian’s Fight for Freedom, written with Nancy French, releases in November 2013. Chris Park at Foundry Literary+Media represented Fu, selling world rights to the book. God’s Double Agent tells Fu’s story—from his impoverished childhood in China to his conversion to Christianity to his teaching English in a Communist school while serving as a pastor in the Chinese underground church. Fu would eventually be imprisoned and have to flee China. Since his arrival to the United States, Fu’s advocacy on behalf of the persecuted has taken him to the capitols of Europe, the halls of Congress, and the Oval Office. Today, Fu heads up ChinaAid, an organization committed to promoting religious freedom, rule of law, and human rights in China. It assists the families of imprisoned church leaders, clandestinely trains human rights lawyers and activists in China, and arranges for the legal defense of women subjected to forced abortions for violating China’s one-child policy. Among countless others, Fu has aided blind activist Chen Guangcheng, China’s first whistleblower Gao Yaojie and the families of human rights lawyers Gao Zhisheng and Guo Feixiong. Fu has been called “the pastor of China’s underground railroad” and was recently featured in Christianity Today, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Chad Allen, Baker Books Editorial Director, says, “We at Baker Books are delighted to publish Bob Fu’s dramatic story. Fu is nothing less than a modern-day William Wilberforce, a freedom fighter whose efforts are saving lives and literally changing a nation.” Bob Fu was a former dissident and pastor of an illegal underground church in China. As a former prisoner, Fu has a unique insight into the plight of Chinese dissidents and a network of Christians in China that is unparalleled. He runs a nonprofit organization called ChinaAid, which advocates for political dissidents and the underground church in China, as well as the lawyers and humans rights activists who place their lives on the line to defend them.
