Colorado Springs, CO – Business experts from three continents will form the 2012 management track training team for Magazine Training International’s (MTI) five-day Advanced Magazine Publishing Institute. Lou Ann Sabatier, principal of Sabatier Consulting in the United States, Marcos Simas, publisher and editor of Christianity Today Brazil, and Alex Yefetov, publisher for NARD Publishing Group in Ukraine, are coming together to offer their different perspectives and a variety business tactics for different cultures and readerships.

The Institute, Oct. 8 – 12, will be held at the start of the "India 2012: Success in Magazine Publishing" conference. The business track is one of three specializations, including magazine editing, magazine design, and magazine management. About half the Institute is comprised of plenary sessions, introducing an overview of the whole system of magazine publishing.

The first of three MTI-sponsored training events in India was held last year, receiving high praise.

"This course has given more clarity on all aspects of magazine publishing," said a publisher in last year’s Institute. "It is very helpful for existing as well as proposed magazines."

In addition to teaching some of the plenary sessions, Sabatier, Simas, and Yefetov will lead management track sessions, where participants gain more in-depth training on management. Topics they will cover include how to assess the present status of a magazine, identify problem areas, and find solutions. Participants will learn how to lay a successful foundation for a new magazine or a more solid foundation of an ongoing magazine.

A participant from 2011 explained his appreciation for the detailed training provided in the management track sessions: "This conference was really good and profitable," said the editor. "I could analyze all the aspects of managing the magazine in a systematic way. It will certainly enable me to publish our magazine better for the glory of God."

The trainers have decades of management and publishing experience to draw from as they build off of the footings established at last year’s conference.

A leading expert in publishing and business strategy, Lou Ann Sabatier is the principal of Sabatier Consulting, which she founded over 15 years ago. Through Sabatier Consulting, she has worked with over 100 media clients, giving them the tools they need to increase profitability through strategic planning, audience development, financial management, fulfillment, production, advertising sales, and operations management.

Prior to founding the consulting firm, Sabatier worked as a literary agent, the managing director of an international economic magazine, and associate publisher of a national opinion magazine. She speaks widely at conferences and workshops throughout the U.S. and Canada. She is a frequent speaker at Folio publishing seminars in New York and Chicago.

Marcos Simas, publisher and editor of Christianity Today Brazil, is a 20-year veteran of the Brazilian publishing industry. Simas currently serves as acquisition editor at Geográfica Editora and Editora Palavra, and has acquired the Portuguese rights for over 250 titles for major general trade and Christian publishers in Brazil. He is also developing a new magazine business in Brazil and serving as an editorial consultant to Christian and general trade publishers who want to acquire Portuguese rights from the American market.

Simas previously worked as an editor with Editora Mundo Cristão and Juerp/Baptist Publishing House.

Alex Yefetov, publisher for NARD Publishing Group, is currently working on a number of publishing and media projects in editorial marketing, consulting, management, and team training. He has been involved in media and publishing since 1995, and management and consulting since 1997. Yefetov has an international publishing background and experience in successful start-ups and re-launches of publications. He specializes in strategic planning, multimedia, and community building with emphasis on print/online solutions.

Yefetov previously worked as editorial director for business development at SoftPress Publishing and publisher and editor-in-chief at Christianity magazine.

The Institute will be followed by a four-day Digital Magazine Publishing Seminar Oct. 14-17, and the four-day Communicating Through Comics Workshop Oct. 18-21. MTI will offer the last of the annual Bangalore training series in November, 2013.
