Colorado Springs, CO – Two publishing professionals at the forefront of the digital media frontier will lead Magazine Training International’s (MTI) four-day Digital Magazine Publishing Seminar in Bangalore, India Oct. 14 -17.
David Renard, partner with mediaIDEAS, and Joseph Galarneau, chief product officer for NewsRight, will offer insight into digital publication of magazines. Hands-on workshops will allow participants the opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of digital publishing and begin to work on a project for their magazine. The Seminar will cover a wide spectrum of information, including how to integrate multi-media into a publication’s digital version, a crash course in digital technology literacy, and how to implement a multi-media marketing strategy.
Participants will gain knowledge of digital publishing that will help them move forward with their current digital magazine, gain the know-how to create a digital version of a current print publication, or decide whether a digital start-up is the direction they want to take.
The Seminar is part of "India 2012," the second training event in a series of three annual MTI-sponsored training programs in India. A digital publishing seminar was also part of the program in 2011. The conference gives publishers the opportunity to meet other Christian publishers, network, and share ideas, problems, and solutions.
Participants last year were generous in their praise of the program.
"MTI offered a platform to meet with other Christian magazine publishers from other parts of the world and this drew inspiration," a Kenyan publisher told MTI. "The contacts developed here and the skills acquired will be very helpful in fulfilling God’s calling on my life."
In addition to the relationships participants will form this year, the seminar trainers, Renard and Galarneau, will provide expertise from years of experience in leadership, technology, and publishing.
David Renard is a partner with mediaIDEAS, a global consultancy providing research and advice on the publishing industry’s technology-enabled future. Renard recently founded and built Netcirculation, the largest nationwide distribution network for high-end boutique fashion, art, photography, and design titles. He also co-created Stare, a publishing and advertising agency, which produced magazines that included Stare and Critic Eye.
Renard authored The Last Magazine, a visual anthology of the stylepress and a commentary on the future of printed periodicals. Previously, he worked for the Gartner Group, the foremost provider of research and analysis on the global IT industry. While with Gartner Group, Renard advised executives and board directors of Fortune 500 companies regarding the impact of technological innovations, and spearheaded a new European subsidiary that developed research-driven decision support tools that he grew into a multi-million dollar business.
Joseph Galarneau is chief product officer for NewsRight, which creates a global marketplace for news content and data. He is on the national advisory board for the Internet Strategy Forum, and was previously on Amazon’s cloud computing global customer advisory board.
Previously, Galarneau served as chief operating officer and digital general manager of The Newsweek/Daily Beast Company, a leading news brand that reaches more than 20 million people around the world each month with its print and digital products. Before joining Newsweek, Galarneau was chief technology officer for Thomas Publishing and New York Magazine, which is a multiple winner of the National Magazine Award for its digital products. He was also a senior manager in the media and entertainment practice of a global management consulting firm, where his clients included The New York Times, Advance Publications, Philip Morris, and JPMorganChase.
The Seminar will be preceded by the five-day Advanced Magazine Publishing Institute Oct. 8-12, and followed by the four-day Communicating Through Comics Workshop Oct. 18-21. MTI will offer the last of the annual Bangalore training series in November, 2013.
