NEW MAGAZINE, ENTERTAINING KIDS, LAUNCHES
TO HELP PARENTS MAKE WISE ENTERTAINMENT CHOICES
Publisher Partners With FrontGate Media For Advertising Sales
Laguna Hills, CA (September 15, 2005) – Reaching out to an audience of parents interested in and concerned about entertainment for their children, Entertaining Kids magazine will debut with the December/January issue. The premiere edition will be available in late November, just in time for the start of the Christmas shopping season.
Equipping parents to make the best choices about what their children watch, play with, read and listen to, Entertaining Kids is helmed by a creative team made up of some of today’s foremost leaders in children’s entertainment and development. The magazine is the brainchild of Publisher Mark Bell, who is widely regarded as one of the foremost producers and leaders in the children’s Christian live entertainment industry. Deonne Beron, who has extensive background in the entertainment and publishing industries, including a position at Everland Entertainment and serving as a consultant for Tommy Nelson and Time Warner Book Group, will be filling the role of Editor.
As the only entertainment magazine with a Biblically-based, product-driven editorial focus written to help parents make entertainment choices for their children ages birth through 12 years old, Entertaining Kids will reach over 50,000 with each issue. Entertaining Kids’ initial campaign publicizing the launch of the magazine has already secured 30,000 subscribers, and will include additional distribution to more than 20,000 parents through leading children's productions, conferences and concerts.
A bi-monthly publication, Entertaining Kids is published on the off-month cycle so it can provide a direct match with kids’ schedules, including a Summer issue streeting in June, Back To School issue streeting in August and two opportunities to reach parents during the fall and holiday season with issues streeting in October and late November.
"When we first began a grassroots campaign for Entertaining Kids, the word began spreading like wildfire,” says Bell. “Enthusiastically, many shared with us how desperately parents need a resource like this. Kids today are bombarded by an entertainment system lacking any moral compass. Our hope is that this magazine can help parents create a roadmap to guide their children through the entertainment driven culture we live in."
Each issue of Entertaining Kids features stories which take parents behind the scenes in family entertainment through interviews with the writers, producers, artists, illustrators, actors, animators and others who develop children’s entertainment, as well as expert columns, reviews and news.
The expert columns are question and answer sections written by noted children’s professionals, offering parents advice on how to handle some of today’s hottest entertainment topics. With a focus on the needs of children at different ages, the columns are broken down into Early Childhood (infants-4 years old) featuring award winning author and communicator, Karyn Henley; Elementary (5-8 years old) written by Pat Verbal, founder of Ministry To Today’s Child; and Tweens (9-12 years old) with Dr. Tim Kimmel, the Executive Director of Family Matters.
In addition, Entertaining Kids will regularly review books, music, videos, live children’s events, websites, video games and toys, and, the news section will aim to keep parents who are keenly aware of their family’s entertainment choices informed by featuring short items on contracts, partnerships, licensing agreements, mergers and other industry changes that have an impact on the entertainment world today in both the Christian and general markets.
”Entertainment is one of the most pervasive topics that parents have to deal with today and for most it’s one of their toughest decisions,” Beron says. “That’s why the content in Entertaining Kids stands to have such a powerful impact on families. Nowhere else is there a magazine that provides a Christian perspective on everything from The Wiggles to VeggieTales and does it in a way that makes sense for today’s busy parents.”
Steve Pennington, director of children’s programs at Saddleback Church adds, “For those of us who work with kids, there is a great need to be better informed about the entertainment choices available to families today. Entertaining Kids is an invaluable resource for those of us who minister to children and families. I can’t wait to recommend it to the parents I work with.”
“If you are concerned about what your children are watching, what they are hearing, and what "seeds" are being planted in their hearts and minds (and I know you are), then here is some help,” exclaims Jean Thomason (a.k.a. Miss PattyCake), who is featured on the cover of the premiere issue. “Entertaining Kids will direct you to movies, videos, music, concerts, books and other products that are built on the Biblical foundation we want to communicate to our children. I'm so excited to have a resource like this to recommend to parents- thanks Entertaining Kids!"
Entertaining Kids is joining forces with FrontGate Media to schedule advertising for each issue.
